Externship Project

I can’t believe how quickly these 8 awesome weeks have flown by. My experience at Milverton-Wellesley Veterinary Clinic has been everything I hoped for. It really felt like we were part of a family, and both Amy and I are so grateful for the time we got to spend with this awesome team.

I wanted to thank the food animal vets, Drs. Brownridge, Sommer and Hordyk, for letting me tag along and pick their brains for the majority of the last 8 weeks. They were excellent teachers and allowed me to get the most of my hands-on learning. Having mentors that have confidence in your skills is very empowering, and I’m thankful that I got to learn from these guys.

Thanks to our equine vet and endless pit of knowledge, Dr. Bihr, I thoroughly enjoyed our horse adventures! Thanks also to the small animal vets Drs. Foster, Pratola and Huband – they let us relentlessly bounce questions and ideas off them, and gave us “minions” (our affectionate nickname) lots of opportunity to hone our skills.

Thanks to the veterinary technicians, Cash, Caitlin and Melissa, for having patience (and fun) with us and putting us to work! And of course, thanks to all the support staff – Sharon, Barb, Rachel, Meghan, Darlene, Sherry and Carrie – for their friendliness, positivity and always sharing a laugh with us.

As of July, the Milverton-Wellesley Veterinary Clinic split into two separate clinics; a large animal clinic based in Milverton, and a small animal clinic based in Wellesley. It’s a pretty huge undertaking to split a mixed animal clinic, but one that this team has handled with grace. Seeing all the changes during May and June was a great learning experience for us to be a part of. Despite having a hectic last week, they still made time for teaching us students, and we appreciate it to no end! We want to wish everyone luck going forward on their exciting new paths, we will be cheering you on!
