Externship Project

I’ve wanted to be a veterinarian since I was 7 years old.  I’ve always felt a special bond with animals and wanted to spend as much time with them as possible.

I pursued a Bachelor of Science at the University of Guelph where I worked as a research assistant in the Department of Clinical Studies on a variety of projects.  This experience showed me a different aspect of veterinary medicine, which I loved! I was also able to watch and scrub into referral surgeries at the Ontario Veterinary College, which sparked another new passion.

I will be doing my externship this summer at the Alpine Veterinary Medical Centre in Whitehorse, Yukon.   Choosing an externship clinic is a very different process for every student.  For me, it was important to find a clinic that practiced emergency medicine and had on-call duties, as I would like to pursue an internship in small animal medicine and surgery after graduation.  It was also important to choose a clinic outside of Ontario where new protocols would offer an added challenge and prepare me for a possible internship in another province or country.

I hope to share some interesting cases this summer and some beautiful pictures of the amazing scenery I will be immersed in!
