I am going into my 4th year of the DVM program at the Ontario Veterinary College. Animals have always fascinated me; some of my best childhood friends were the stray cats and dogs in the area where I grew up in Sri Lanka. In high school I decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Once I decided on this career path, I actively sought out animal experience through volunteer and co-op programs, worked as a farm hand taking care of pigs and milking cows while completing undergraduate studies at the University of Guelph in Biological Sciences. Over the years I developed a special interest in pigs so I chose to go to Abilene Animal Hospital (AAH) in Abilene, Kansas, a mixed practice with a strong swine focus, to complete my externship. I feel incredibly lucky to have this opportunity to be mentored by the experts at AAH and I’m delighted to share my learning with you!
